چکیده

We analyze two designs for W-Band free electron lasers for application as laboratory instruments in the study of millimeter wave accelerators at high gradient. The first design is based on the linear induction accelerator LELIA (CEA/CESTA, France), employs a 1kA, 80-ns electron pulse, and corresponds to a helical TE11 200MW W-Band amplifier design. We analyze also a W-Band planar ubitron design making use of a SLACmodulator, operating with a 480 kV, 300 A, sheet beam gun and producing a 5 MW, 1μs pulse. Free-electron Lasers: Vacuum Electronic Generators of Coherent Radiation

Vacuum electronic sources have shown marked improvement since the invention of the magnetron before World War II, and dramatic increases in both average powers and frequencies have been achieved. Of course, much of these gains have been achieved by the development of different devices. The typical development pattern for a given device exhibits an initial period of rapid improvement followed by...

Dielectric Wakefield Accelerator to Drive the Future FEL Light Source

X-ray free-electron lasers (FELs) are expensive instruments and a large part of the cost of the entire facility is driven by the accelerator. Using a high-energy gain dielectric wake-field accelerator (DWA) instead of the conventional accelerator may provide a significant cost saving and reduction of the facility size. In this article, we investigate using a collinear dielectric wakefield accel...

First–Principle Calculation of the Electronic and Optical Properties of Nanolayered ZnO Polymorphs by PBE and mBJ Density Functionals

First principle calculations of nanolayered ZnO polymorphs (Wurzite–, Zincblende–, Rocksalt–structures) in the scheme of density functional theory were performedwith the help of full potential linear augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. Theexchange - correlation potential is described by generalized gradient approximation asproposed by Perdew–Burke–Ernzrhof (GGA–PBE) and modified Becke–Johns...

Improving Blue InGaN Laser Diodes Performance with Waveguide Structure Engineering

To enhance lasers’ power and improve their performance, a model wasapplied for the waveguide design of 400 nm InGaN/InGaN semiconductor laser, whichis much easier to implement. The conventional and new laser structures weretheoretically investigated using simulation software PICS3D, which self-consistentlycombines 3D simulation of carrier transport, self-heating, and opt...

Progress Report on High - Gradient Rf Studies in Copper Accelerator Structures

This paper is a progress report on studies carried out at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center to understand the behavior of copperaccelerator structures under extreinely high RF fields. Such structures are being designed for future electron-positron linear colliders. Recent studies include field emission and breakdown experiments with an S-band slotted-disk structure, a single demountable S-...
